This class explores the craft of writing short films, focusing on duration, storytelling constraints, and the essential do’s and don’ts. Masterclass Topic: Writing Short Films: Mastering the Process Speaker: Black Writers Workspace (BWW) presents A Masterclass with Director JGatz, an award-winning filmmaker, producer, educator, and poet whose work challenges audiences to reflect on relational conflict, personal trauma, growth, and social perspective. Her films have screened at festivals nationwide, including the Micheaux Film Festival and the National Black Film Festival. Her poetry, including Void: Generational Wounds and Alligatoridae, has been published in Passengers Journal and Decolonial Passage. A 2024 fellow of the New Orleans Film Society Emerging Voices Director’s Lab and the Full Armor Conservatory Screenwriting Intensive, her latest short film, Tell Me Why, is currently in post-production. Through her work, Director JGatz is committed to inspiring the next generation of storytellers and using film as a tool for impact. Her work, Below The Veil, was the recipient of the People's Choice Award at the first annual BLK INK Short Film Premiere - New Orleans in 2025 hosted by the Black Writers Workspace.
